There is a long-standing debate among Bible-believing Protestants regarding baptism. Credobapists argue that baptism is for those who have made a profession of faith in Christ. Paedobaptists argue that baptism is the sign of the covenant (just as circumcision was the old sign of the covenant) and therefore is to be performed upon the children of believers in the same way that circumcision was performed upon the children of believers.
I think that few credobaptists understand the argument paedobaptists are making. Believer's Baptist: Sign of the New Covenant in Christ, edited by Thomas Schreiner and Shawn Wright, is probably the most important book on believer's baptism written by credobaptists in recent years. Arguably, the most important chapter in this book is "Baptism and the Relationship between the Covenants," by Stephen Wellum. Wellum (PhD, Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Professor of Christian Theology at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary) gives a very good and relatively unbiased overview of the debate. He then attempts to present credobaptism within a covenantal framework. The chapter is available in pdf format here.
